On October 26th, 2020 FISU World University Championship Mind Sports (online) was held. Representing Chinese college students, the bridge team of our university as the 4th team of China participated in the competition and played smart games with nearly 30 bridge teams from all over the world. Du Peng was the manager of our university’s bridge team, and Liu Baosheng, Zhang Xiaonian, and Zheng Chaoping were coaches. The participating players are Lv Xinyang, Hou Jinzhu, Yang Chen from School of Mathematics and Computer Department, Wei Wenjie from the School of Physical Education, Bai Liyuan from School of Foreign Languages, and Wang Ying from School of Marxism.
Leaders of the university paid great attention to this competition. Secretary of the CPC Hengshui University Committee Wang Shouzhong and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Hengshui University Committee Wang Jinsheng came to the competition site (online) to cheer for the participating students. They hoped that the players could perform well and strive to achieve outstanding results to show the quality of our students and won honor for Hengshui University.
The competition is organized by the International University Sports Federation and will last until the 30th. The competition hosted by Bydgoszcz, Poland includes two major events, chess and bridge and lasts for 5 days, with 500 participants from more than 40 countries and regions.
On the first day of the competition, from 17:00 to 23:00 Beijing time, our school bridge team competed against Germany, Serbia, Argentina, Poland 4 and Indonesia 5 respectively. The event is conducted in an online battle mode, and audio and video network monitoring will be conducted throughout the entire process to restore the offline game scene as real as possible. The final matchup will be held on October 30th, Beijing time.
Bridge as a highly competitive intellectual game is an Olympic performance event as well as a competition event for the Asian Games, the National Games and the Provincial Games. As the only full-time general university in Hengshui City, our school has introduced bridge to the campus since the 1980s, and has continued to take significant investment in teachers, funds, and equipment over the years. At present, bridge has become a major characteristic brand of campus culture, and the players has participated in national-level bridge competitions many times and achieved good results.
